| The Film and Video Distribution Database has come out of an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
funded research project undertaken from 2002-2005 by Julia Knight and Peter Thomas at the then University of Luton (now the University of Bedfordshire).
The project examined the history of film and video distribution in what has been loosely called the UK independent
film and video sector, from the mid-1960s onwards. In the course of that project, thousands of documents were scanned for reference purposes. And it is
these that have formed the basis of the Film and Video Distribution Database. Knight and Thomas subsequently moved to the University of Sunderland and the
FVDD was undertaken as a collaboration with the British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection since the documents collected in the course of the
Luton project provide an institutional history which complements the Study Collection's own database and holdings of artists' work, papers, materials and
catalogues. |
